What are the common STDs in Singapore?

DSC (or Department of Sexually Transmitted Infections Control) Clinic did a survey in 2018 and found that the top 5 STDs in Singapore are, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Genital Warts and Genital Herpes.

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that causes pain and discomfort when a person pees and produces abnormal discharge in the genital area. The symptoms for Gonorrhea are very similar to Chlamydia. Syphilis is more complicated as it can appear as ulcers and progresses to become rashes. In severe cases, it can even infect the brain.

Genital warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), they appear with groves, lumps and bumps in the genital area and can spread extensively. Genital herpes is a viral infection that causes blisters and ulcers which can be quite painful. Unfortunately, herpes cannot be cured but can be managed.
