STD Testing Singapore

STD Testing in Singapore is often considered to be a rather sensitive issue. However it is an imperative process to discern the presence of a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) or a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). A sexually transmitted infection is an infection spread mainly by sexual contact with an infected person or a high risk partner.

The STD tests and check up packages can be individualized and customized based on your needs and risks. Please feel free to consult our doctors.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR TESTING / SCREENING:

For urinary tests, please hold your urine for at least 2 hours prior to coming to clinic.

For females, there will be no testing during menstruation. Please come before your menses start or after your menses have stopped.

For males, if you have any penile discharge, please try not to wipe away so that we can collect a swab sample. An overnight sample is best.

Most test results will take 3 to 5 working days, except for candida cultures, which can take up to 7 days.

SAMPLES REQUIRED

Different STD / STI tests may require different types of samples, for example, blood (serum) samples, swab samples can be oral, urethral, vaginal or anal, or even skin scrapings or skin biopsies from the affected skin area.

Commonly tested STDs and STIs are gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia, genital herpes, genital warts, hepatitis and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection.

It is important to get tested for STDs / STIs if you think you have been exposed because early detection of STIs allows for appropriate and definitive treatment and to minimize transmission to other partners. Also some STDs / STIs may be completely asymptomatic and you may not know that you have been infected until the later stages or when you have passed the infection to other partners unknowingly.

Getting yourself tested may be the only way to find out whether you have been infected.

What happens if I am tested positive for STD?

At Nuffield Medical, if a patient is tested positive for STD, your doctor would sit down with you to explain your diagnosis, and offer advice on the available treatment options. Treatment options normally range from antibiotics, and may sometimes require more complex treatments.

STD TESTING / SCREENING (INDIVIDUAL TESTS)

We offer a full range of HIV Tests and STD Tests that can be ordered and performed individually according to patient’s needs and symptoms.
